A Greedy Dog 一只贪心的狗A Greedy dog went into a butcher’s shop and stole a big juicy bone. He ran away so fast that the butcher could not catch him. He ran out into the fields with his bone. He was going to eat it all by himself.
一只贪心的狗跑到一家猪肉店偷了一根很大又有髓的骨头.他跑很快,所以那个卖猪肉的人追不到他.他咬著他的大骨头跑到空旷的地方,准备要好好地吃个痛快.
the dog came to a stream. There was a narrow bridge across it. The dog walked on to the bridge, and looked into the water. He could see another dog with a big bone in his mouth.
这只狗来到一条溪流.有一座窄窄的桥跨在上面.这只狗走到桥上,望水里面看.他看见另一只狗嘴里咬著一跟大骨头.
the GREedy dog thought the bone in the water looked much bigger than the one he had stolen from the butcher.
这只贪心的狗认为在水里面的那根骨头看起来比他跟卖肉的偷来的这根骨头大多了.
the GREedy dog dropped the bone from his mouth. It fell into the water and was lost. He jumped into the water to snatch the bigger bone from the other dog.
这只贪心的狗从嘴理丢了那根骨头.它掉到水里而且不见了.他跳进去水里面想从另一只狗那儿抓那跟更大的骨头.
the Greedy dog jumped into the water with a big splash. He looked everywhere but he could not see the other dog. His shadow had gone.
贪心的狗跳进水里溅起好多水花.他到处看,可是都找不到其他的狗.他的倒影不见了.
寓意：贪的太多只会失去更多。
Wolf with goat's skin 披着羊皮的狼A wolf wanted to eat the sheep, but he was afraid of the vigilant shepherd and his dogs.
狼想吃羊，但是他害怕警惕的牧羊人和牧羊犬。
One day the wolf found the skin of a sheep. He put it on and walked among the sheep.
有一天狼发现了一块羊皮，便披着它混入羊群。
A lamb thought that the wolf was its mother because his skin looked like hers. So it followed the wolf.
一只小羊羔把这只披着羊皮的狼误认为自己的妈妈，被领出了羊群。
Soon after they had left the dogs, the wolf came at the lamb and ate it up. For some time he succeeded in deceiving the sheep, and enjoying hearty meals.
狼成功地欺骗了羊群，吃掉了小羊羔。
寓意: 事物的外表有时候会掩盖它的本质，所以我们不能只凭表面现象就作判断。
The wolf and the crane 狼和鹭鸶When a wolf was eating an animal，a small bone from the meat got stuck in his throat. He could not swallow it，so he felt a terrible pain.
狼吃东西的时候， 肉里的一一小块骨头卡在喉咙里， 吞不下去，很疼。
He ran up and down, and tried to find something to relieve the pain.
他四处奔走， 想找到什么办法减轻痛苦。
He tried to convince anyone to remove the bone. "I would give anything," he said,' 'if you would
take it out."
他为了让人相信说道:“ 如果能取出这块骨头，我付出什么都可以。”
At last the crane agreed to try. It told the wolf to open his mouth, and then put its long neck down the wolf’s throat.
最后，鹭鸶同意试试看，他让狼张大嘴，然后将长长的脖子伸进狼的喉咙。
The crane loosened the bone with its beak, and finally got it out.
鹭鸶用尖嘴叼出骨头，最后将其取出。
"Will you kindly give me the reward?" asked the crane.
鹭鸶问: “你给我什么报酬?”
The wolf showed his teeth, and said, “Be content, you have put your head into a wolf’s mouth and taken it out again in safety. That is a great reward for. you. “
狼露出他的牙齿，说:“喂，朋友，你能从狼嘴里平安无事地收回头来，这就是报酬。”
寓意:一个贪得无厌的人是不会因为得到别人的帮助而心存感激的。
The vixen and the lioness 雌狐与母狮One morning when a vixen was taking her babies out of the lair, she saw a lioness and her cub.
一天清早，雌狐狸带着她的孩子走出巢穴，看见了母狮子和她的孩子。
"Why do you have only one child, dear dame?" asked the vixen.
“为什么你只有一个孩子，夫人?”雌狐狸问。
“Look at my heal thy. and numerous chil dren here, and imagine, if you are able，how a proud mother hould feel.”
“看我这群健康的孩子，如果有能力，一个骄傲的妈妈应该多养一些孩子。”
The lioness said calmly, "Yes， just look. at that beautiful collection. What are they? Foxes! I’ve only one，but remember, that one is a lion.”
母狮平静地说:“是呀， 看看这漂亮的一大群，他们都是狐狸!我只有一个，可他毕竟是一一头狮子。”
寓意：贵重的价值在于质，而不在于量。
The fox and the grapes 狐狸和葡萄One hot summer day a fox was walking through an orchard. He stopped before a bunch of grapes. They were ripe and juicy.
一个炎热的夏日， 狐狸走过一个果园，他停在一大串熟透而多汁的葡萄前。
“I’m just feeling thirsty“ he thought. So he backed up a few paces, got a running start, jumped
up, but could not reach the grapes.
狐狸想:“我正口渴呢。”于是他后退了几步，向前一冲，跳起来，却无法够到葡萄。
He walked back. One,two,three,he jumped up again,but still,he missed the grapes.
狐狸后退又试。一次，两次，三次，但是都没有得到葡萄。
The fox tried again and again, but never succeeded. At last he decided to give it up.
狐狸试了一次又一次，都没有成功。最后，他决定放弃。
He walked away with his nose in the air, and said”I am sure they are sour.”
他昂起头，边走边说:“ 葡萄还没有成熟，我敢肯定它是酸的。”
寓意：在经历了许多尝试而不能获得成功的时候，有些人往往故意轻视成功，以此来寻求心理安慰。
